Switzerland | Zurich

Zurich is easily one of the easiest and most photogenic cities we have ever visited. It’s easy to get around, the weather can be gorgeous, and the scenery is simply stunning. The water in the river and lake is a mesmerizing shade of blue-green. Around every corner you could snap a picture that feels like it’s made for a postcard.

And the food? Let’s just say the fondue and raclette in Switzerland are everything people say they are—and more! If you haven’t had either of these cheesy amazing-ness yet, you are missing out.

We were lucky to stay in an awesome location in a lovely apartment. We had an array of delicious food options right on our block, and there were so many places to explore within walking distance. Zurich itself doesn’t need a ton of time to explore. After 2-3 days, you’ve likely seen the highlights, but what’s great is the city’s slow pace. It gave us time to relax, catch up on life, work out, and just breathe—something we didn’t realize we needed. However, be prepared for the costs! Zurich is pricey, so plan accordingly.

Our Itinerary and Highlights of Our Stay in Zurich

Day 1: Took the train from Paris, checked in to our apartment, and headed to a Lagree class. We spent the afternoon exploring Old Town before treating ourselves to a delicious steak dinner.

Lagree classes were awesome part of our time in Zurich! It felt so refreshing to keep up the fitness routine even while traveling. Plus, the classes helped balance all the rich meals we indulged in later! (P.S. Lagree classes were taken by Valerie only. Jeremy was invited, he declined.) Thank you to the Lagree studio Booster for some wonderful classes.

Day 2: Started the morning with another Lagree class (those fondue calories don’t burn themselves!). Afterward, we took a relaxing walk along the river before capping off the day with some incredible sushi for dinner.

Craft Beer Bar and Meeting Dave: We found a cozy craft beer bar called “Grain”, and it became one of our favorite spots. The owner, Dave, was a welcoming and friendly face, making us feel right at home. His passion for craft beer was contagious!

Day 3: Kicked off the morning with breakfast, followed by a bus and boat tour with our friend Pauly, who joined us for the day. Pauly didn’t get enough of us in Paris for the Olympics, so he made a guest appearance in Zurich for 24 hours.

A river cruise is a must in Zurich. Floating along the river while surrounded by the city’s picturesque landscape is an experience we’ll never forget. It’s an easy, peaceful way to take in the city’s beauty.

We ended on a high note with the most indulgent raclette and fondue dinner of our trip. It was a cheesy dream come true!

Fondue and Raclette: We can’t emphasize enough how amazing the food was. The fondue and raclette were next-level—if you’re a cheese lover, Zurich will feel like heaven. These dishes truly lived up to the hype.

Day 4: Packed up and caught our train to Munich for the next leg of our European adventure. Good bye Zurich!

Things We Learned in Zurich:

  1. English is Everywhere: Almost everyone we met spoke English fluently and didn’t mind using it. It made everything so easy and stress-free.

  2. Public Transportation is a Dream: Zurich’s public transportation system is not only incredibly easy to use but also super clean and efficient. Getting around was a breeze.

  3. Trains are a Great Way to Travel: Whether you’re coming from Paris or heading to Munich, the train system in and out of Zurich is smooth and straightforward. Highly recommend!

  4. Meatloaf Surprise: Fun fact, if you order “meatloaf” in Zurich, what you’re actually getting is beef tartare! It was a bit of a surprise, but hey, that’s all part of the adventure.

Final Thoughts:

Zurich was a lovely and relaxing part of our travels through Europe. It’s a beautiful, serene city with delicious food, friendly locals, and easy access to other destinations. While 2-3 days is enough to take it all in, the slower pace gave us a chance to unwind and recharge after our time at the Olympics. And while it’s a bit expensive, the experience is definitely worth it!

Cheers (Prost!) to our time in Zurich, Switzerland! We look forward to exploring more of the region. Zurich was just a first, delicious taste.
