France | Nice

Nice, France! It was a quick stop between Spain and Montenegro. Why? Because it made geographical sense and we had a few days in between the two countries that needed to be spent somewhere. And, really, why not? Would you say no to more time in France?

While it was quick and we didn’t get to explore much of the city, or surrounding areas, we had a great time. Things we did:

  • Beach Days

  • Restaurant Jan

Beach days were lovely. Sitting on the beach in the south of France drinking champagne is a lifestyle we could get used to.

The highlight of this adventure was a visit to Restaurant Jan, a Michelin Star restaurant in Nice. We have a friend of a friend in London who knows the chef and was able to get us a last minute reservation.

Valerie Note: Usually restaurants like this are lost on me. I love good food, but the idea of so many courses, and pre-set courses (read this as things I won’t eat) doesn’t appeal to me. However, Jeremy talked me into this one and I am SO glad he did.

Another Valerie Note: I am beginning to notice a pattern in my life. The things Jeremy talks me into doing are some of the best things we have experienced. A few examples:

  • Seeing In and Of Itself in New York.

  • Seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in New York.

  • Eating dumplings at Din Tai Fung.

Hopefully, he won’t read this. I don’t want to give him too much credit.

The restaurant is stunning. The service was exceptional. The food and wine were magical. We aren’t people that take photos of our meals, but this wasn’t food on a plate. It was art.

The only thing that could have made the experience any better was if there was a cheese room. Oh, wait. There was! When you are finished with your fifth course, a lovely woman greets you at your table and escorts you across the street to your sixth course – The Cheese Room. A large table sits in the middle with all of the cheese and anything you could want to enhance the flavor of the cheese.

Valerie Note: While I loved all of the courses, I could have spent my evening in The Cheese Room and been just as happy. I would go back for just The Cheese Room.

Things We Learned

  • Spend more time in Nice, France.

  • Michelin star restaurants are awesome and should be experienced.

  • Cheese rooms are needed everywhere. Seriously.

That is a snapshot of our time in Nice, France. Cheers to a wonderful experience in France, again!
